Dixie Minor Americans keep winning

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

The Enterprise Dixie Minor Americans 10-year-olds team, began this week as they ended last week: on a wining note.
The Americans downed Coffee County 25-0 in the first round of the All-Star Sub-District Tournament in Luverne last week. Lane Strahan was the winning pitcher and Logan Thompson, 3-for-3, helped lead the charge in the mercy-rule game.
"Almost everyone got a hit in the game," said head coach Greg Thompson, a former second baseman who played collegiately at Harding University in Searcy, Ark.
On Monday the going was a bit tougher as Greenville gave the Americans a scare.
"This is the first time we've beaten them and we've been playing them in baseball since our guys were 8 years old," Thompson said of the 13-7 victory. "We feel pretty good about that."
Collin Strickland, Thompson said, was the game's winning pitcher. Logan Thompson was 3-for-3, Trey Simmons had a pair of hits and drove in three runs; and Kyle Dennis tripled in the winning effort.
The win came at a cost as Hunter Brackin, who had a triple early on, was injured in a second-base collision, but was expected to be ready to go when the Americans played Luverne Tuesday night.
Other members of the Americans are Reid Danford, Hunter Lunsford, Peyton Stinson, Jarrett Grubb, Kyler Bright, and Noah Wright.
