Fortner signs with West Alabama

Jamie Fortner recently joined his fellow Enterprise High School Wildcats Brandon Tisdale, Preston Penn and Bryant McGowan when he signed a football grant-in-aid with the University of West Alabama.

The 6’3” 250-pounder, who missed most of his senior season due to injury, was named to the Alabama roster for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game but was unable to play due to the injury suffered in the first month of the 2008 season.

The son of Eddie and Sheila Fortner is undecided on his major field of study but he does know what he wants in life, starting with the signing of the scholarship.

“I chose West Alabama to play football and to get an education,”

Fortner, a 6A All-State offensive lineman, said. “Sports are one of the main ways I express myself.”

Fortner’s dad was a member of the 1979 Enterprise High School state championship team 30 years ago, and a member of the 1982 state championship baseball team at then-Enterprise State Junior College.

As far as a career is concerned, the younger Fortner has a definite idea about what he wants in life.

“I want something making lots of money,” he said.

When asked to name someone who had helped him experience the success that provided the scholarship, Fortner left nothing to speculation.

“God,” he said, “I thank God.”

Hunting, fishing and chillin’ are Fortner’s hobbies, and oysters are his favorite food.

“Sons of Anarchy” is his favorite TV show and “300” is his choice in movies. Fortner prefers rock music and said Kimbo Slice is his favorite athlete.
