Lady Wildcats softball team wins two tourney games

The Enterprise High Lady Wildcats split the four games they played in the recent Andalusia Tournament.

Enterprise opened with a 4-0 victory against Jackson High in which Brittany Perry (6- 3) earned the win for pitching six innings, allowing three hits, walking one sand striking out seven. Hannah Martin, 2- for-2 with a stolen base, and Kayla Beth Logsdon, 1-for-3 with a triple, and two RBIs, led the EHS attack.

“Obviously, you want to begin a tournament with a win,” said EHS coach Ben Thompson. “That’s especially true against good opposition like Jackson.“

The Lady Cats continued their winning ways in their second game, a 5-1 decision against the Wetumpka Lady Indians. Kaitlin Stirckland (10-3) notched the mound victory. Strickland pitched four innings, allowed three hits, an earned run, and struck out two before being relieved by Jostlyn Higgerson, who earned her third save of the season.

Higgerson pitched two innings, allowed one hit and struck out three. Jordan Bullock went 2-for-3 and had a stolen base; Adrienne Bradley was 2-for-3 with an RBI; and Ashley Brown was 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs.

“It was so-far, sogood at that point in the tournament,” Thompson said. “That all changed in the third game.“

Enterprise lost to Straughn, 3-1, despite Perry (6-4) limiting Straughn to three earned runs, five hits and three walks in 52/3’s innings; she struck out six. Brown was 1-for-2 with a triple and had Enterprise’s lone RBI; Bradley was 1-for-2 with a double.

The loss set up a rematch with Wetumpka, which the Indians won, 4-3. Strickland (10-4) took the loss for four innings’ work that saw her surrender six hits and four runs — two earned. Strickland struck out three before giving way to Higgerson who went the rest of the way, allowed one hit and struck out seven. Brown was 1-for-2 with a triple and an RBI, and Bradley was 2- for-3 with a double and an RBI.
