The legendary gospel group, The Florida Boys, will make a rare appearance in Enterprise, headlining a benefit concert for the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home in Dothan.

Joining the Florida Boys in the Saturday, Feb. 25 gospel sing at Westview Baptist Church in Enterprise, will be local favorites The Dyess Family from the Opp area. The concert will start at 6 p.m. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.

Mark Donaldson, music minister at Westview Baptist Church, said the chance occurrence of having the original members of the iconic group to come and perform was tedious, yet overwhelming.

“For as long as I have known music, there has been the Florida Boys,” Donaldson said. “And that’s a long time. And for them to get together and do this for us is just an incredible opportunity for us and those who want to come and see them perform. We are so humbled to be a small part of it.”

For more than 60 years The Florida Boys have been at the forefront of gospel music with a combined total of over 150 years of singing experience. Glen Allred joined the group in the fall of 1952, Les Beasley in the spring of 1953 and pianist Derrell Stewart in 1956. Re-uniting with them will be Tommy Atwood, a member of the Alabama Gospel Music Hall of Fame who sang with the group from 1966-1972.

With over 100 albums to their credit, the singers have turned out standard gospel classics such as “I’m Standing On The Solid Rock", "Lead Me To The Altar" and "When He Was On The Cross, I Was On His Mind". In 1964, they became the first gospel group to have a nationally syndicated television program, the Gospel Singing Jubilee, which garnered a number of Dove Awards and enjoyed a huge following in national syndication.
