An Enterprise man charged with shooting one man during a robbery and later shooting at another man had his youthful offender status application denied Friday.
Twelth Judicial Circuit Judge Thomas Head had heard arguments earlier for and against the application made by Stephen Jermaine Pittman. Pittman is alleged to have been involved in two shootings during the same week last May.
Pittman faces first-degree assault and robbery charges stemming from an incident that occurred May 1 at Village Heights Apartments, according to an earlier The Enterprise Ledger report.
According to the report, Miguel Rafael Gray said he pulled into the apartment complex and was approached by two men. One man was armed and fired at Gray, striking him in the arm and groin.
Pittman was later arrested for the crime, and a Coffee County grand jury found enough evidence that he took money from Gray and used a handgun to “cause serious physical injury” to issue an indictment.
On May 4, another shooting occurred at an Enterprise apartment complex, leading to a charge of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle for both Pittman and Jordain Lymac Jackson.
The victim, Benjamin Johnson, reported driving through the complex when he heard someone yelling at him. When he looked up, two men, alleged to be Pittman and Jackson, were firing at him.
Jackson pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of reckless endangerment.
After hearing arguments from Pittman’s attorney Matt Folmar and prosecutor Chris Kaminski, Head took the issue under advisement. He denied the request Friday.
Pittman was 20 at the time the incidents occurred.
Head set Pittman’s arraignment on the three charges for Feb. 24.
