Enterprise Chamber of Commerce Health Fair Committee members and Mayor Kenneth Boswell gathered in the lobby of Medical Center Enterprise Tuesday to proclaim Feb. 26 as Enterprise Healthy Lifestyle Day.

The proclamation was in conjunction with the annual Enterprise Area Community Health Fair, slated for Saturday, Feb. 26, from 8 a.m. until noon at the Enterprise High School campus.

Chamber President Phil Thomas said the Health Fair has been held in the Enterprise area in some form since 1972.

“For some 39 years, the city has offered citizens free health screenings and educational activities,” Thomas said. “The Health Fair is truly a communitywide effort each year. Part of our mission as a chamber is to help improve the quality of life for citizens. This is a great opportunity for people to come out and take advantage of some of the screenings free.”

Thomas also thanked Enterprise High School officials for use of the school’s campus for the Health Fair.

Darlene Wise, chairman of the chamber’s Health Care Committee, and Hugh Mead, the chamber’s board chairman, and Medical Center Enterprise CEO Jeff Brannon, recognized some of the sponsors of the Health Fair, including silver sponsors Alabama Power Foundation, Dothan Hypertension and Nephrology, Sawyer Surgery Clinic and Wiregrass Hospice.

Platinum sponsors are the E.L. Gibson Foundation, Medical Center Enterprise, Dobbs Eye Clinic/Eye Center South and DaVita Enterprise Dialysis.

Thomas said for the first year, the Health Fair will include a Fun Walk at 10 a.m. and a poster contest for fourth and fifth graders.

“We also sponsor scholarships each year to students who want to go into the medical field,” he said. “The recipients of the scholarships and the poster contest winners will be announced at the Health Fair beginning at 8 a.m. with a ribbon cutting ceremony.”

Some of the health information and free services available at the Health Fair include blood pressure checks, blood glucose diabetes screening, cholesterol testing, hearing and eye screenings, bone density testing, dental, weight and body fat analysis, orthodontic exams, posture analysis and more.

Information on All-Kids, counseling services, joint health, nutrition information, weight loss and other topics also will be available.
