Local law enforcement officials are hopeful the “Zomby” will no longer vandalize property in southeast Alabama.
Daleville Police officers arrested 18-year-olds Reyes Reyes and Michael White and a juvenile after they allegedly committed several vandalisms in five towns. In many of these vandalisms, the word “Zomby” was spray-painted on cars, doors and signs in the areas.
After Daleville arrested the three on Dec. 21, Daleville Police Chief Ron Williamson said the suspects also confessed to incidents in Clayhatchee, Pinckard, Level Plains and Enterprise. According to Enterprise Police Department’s Sgt. Steve Russell, no arrests have been made in the Enterprise cases and the investigation is still pending.
Williamson said many of the vandalisms started several months ago and included bricks being thrown through church windows.
The “Zomby” incidents began about two month ago.
Neighborhoods off Rucker Boulevard were hit with the tags approximately two weeks ago. Williamson said it is not a gang-related reference or activity and is related to a video game.
In Daleville, the three face one felony count of criminal mischief and several misdemeanor charges, Williamson said. The Dale County Sheriff’s Office has also charged the three with one misdemeanor charge for an incident in Pinckard, he added.
Three arrested on methamphetamine charges
When Coffee County Sheriff Office deputies went to serve an arrest warrant for a first-degree robbery charge Tuesday, they actually had more to handle than expected.
According to CCSO Chief Deputy Ronnie Whitworth, deputies went to serve a first-degree arrests warrant for 42-year-old Jeffery Scott Maddox at a residence on County Road 636.
While serving it, deputies spotted all the components for making methamphetamine and obtained arrest warrants for Maddox and two others at the residence.
Facing first-degree manufacturing of a controlled substance and drug trafficking charges are Maddox, 38-year-old Tommy Dale Bryan and 26-year-old Jessica Darlene Burch.
Whitworth said the meth lab was not operational but had the potential to be.
Maddox also faces the robbery charge and a probation violation charge.
