New Brockton Mayor Lenwood Herron surveys the new $165,000 garbage truck, which arrived Monday around noon. Greg Shiver, a consultant and truck outside sales representative from Truck Sales and Equipment of Pensacola, Fla., delivered the new garbage truck and will provide training to New Brockton Department of Public Works employees.
New Brockton is getting ready to begin its garbage collection service with the arrival of a new garbage truck and with bins on the way.
The new service will require for two more city employees and will provide a $50,000 profit for the town after 10 years, said New Brockton Mayor Lenwood Herron.
The truck, which cost $165,000, will be paid for over the next five years.
“After five years, we can purchase the truck for $1,” Herron said. “Right now, we’re waiting for the delivery of 522 roll-out residential cans to the current household garbage customers in town.”
Fifteen commercial garbage bins for business customers were delivered Jan. 4.
The 20-cubic-yard rear-end loader, was manufactured in Ohio. The truck was then transported to Truck Sales and Equipment of Pensacola, Fla,. for detail preparation and final delivery to New Brockton.
The new garbage truck will be sent to Elba to a sign company for graphics illustration and striping.
“Once the sign company is finished with what they have to do, we’ll be ready to be in business,” he said.
Herron stressed that the $16 monthly fee that each household currently pays will not increase and the collection date will remain on Tuesday each week.
“Our new garbage services will increase the public works department full-time manpower from two to four persons in helping to keep the town clean,” he said. “The new garbage truck represents another successful step in creating more jobs in New Brockton and is part of the master plan to continue rebuilding the town and getting it ready for more growth and new businesses.”
