Bond was denied for an Army sergeant arrested Thursday on drug charges pending an investigation into allegations that the soldier also possessed child pornography.
District Judge Paul Sherling denied bond for Dustin Ray Hogan after 12th Judicial Circuit District Attorney Gary McAliley said when a search warrant was executed at Hogan’s home Thursday, a computer was discovered that had 18 videos involving child pornography on it.
Hogan, 30, of County Road 549 New Brockton, was in court Friday for an initial appearance on charges of second-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony possession of a controlled substance. During the Friday hearing, McAliley told the court the 18 videos found on the computer in Hogan’s home involved Hogan and two children age 8 and 10 engaged in deviant sexual acts.
“I have never seen anything worse in the 35 years I have been a judge and a district attorney,” McAliley said.
Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton said the investigation into the videos and 22 photographs was conducted by his department and the Fort Rucker Criminal Investigation Division. Further charges are expected, he said. Sutton said that the children involved in the alleged incidents lived in Illinois and the videos had apparently been filmed there. Charges against Hogan are also expected in Illinois, Sutton said.
Sutton said if Hogan was released into custody of his military commander at Fort Rucker, he would at best be confined to quarters. An agent with the Fort Rucker Criminal Investigation Division who attended Friday’s hearing said he had talked to Hogan’s commander and confirmed Sutton’s statement.
McAliley said Hogan’s only ties to the area are that he is stationed at Fort Rucker. Sutton said the court should consider Hogan a flight risk.
Hogan remains in the Coffee County Jail after Sherling denied bond Friday, citing the pending investigation and flight risk.
