In New Brocton: Site approved in NB for Dollar General

A hint of good news was in store for the New Brockton Town Council, which has been at odds over a fiscal year budget and a police department controversy — a new Dollar General store is coming to town.
A site has been approved for construction at the corner of Tyler Street and the Highway 84 bypass, said Mayor Lenwood Herron.
“We are excited over this prospect of a new business in town,” Herron said. “I truly believe that all the folks in New Brockton and the surrounding areas are also excited about this. This is just the beginning of many good things to come as we work towards building a better future for the town.”
Herron received word of the site approval from The Broadway Group out of Huntsville. Spokesperson Alicia Cole said the next step is to order the title work and survey.
“As soon as those are complete, we will have our engineer draw the plans and we’ll contact the town for permitting,” she said.
Dollar General representatives visited the town recently and expressed interest in building a new store in New Brockton.
“They came and looked at two sites, but finally decided on one adjacent next to the bypass,” Herron said. “We welcome them with open arms and are actively seeking for other businesses to locate in the town. I believe that everyone will turn out to fully support the new store and continue to support our downtown businesses.”
During a recent working session meeting, the council worked on a new fiscal budget; it will meet during the regular session Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. at town hall.
“We are going to continue to promote new business and seek support of our businesses who have been here for many years and the new businesses who have come to town,” he said. “Our Downtown Revitalization Committee meets each month to try and come up with new ideas and ways to promote our town and we’ll continue to do so.
The next meeting for the Downtown Revitalization Committee is Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at town hall.
