With the holidays approaching, the town of New Brockton wants to celebrate with the community by hosting a Christmas parade and open house for several businesses downtown and the senior citizens center.
New Brockton Christmas parade chair Barbara Herron said parade festivities are being prepared to offer a big time for the residents.
“We want as many entries as we can get because we want to celebrate Christmas in a small town the big way,” she said.
As in the past, businesses downtown will host an open house Saturday, Dec. 5, during the afternoon hours before the parade begins at 4 p.m.
Parade entries are asked to gather at New Brockton Elementary School. The route proceeds from the elementary school to the downtown area.
Teresa Huff of New Brockton Florist and Gift said the parade and open house are always a delight because they bring the community together during an afternoon and evening of fun.
“For a small town, the Christmas parade is exciting and it’s a chance for us to show off what we have to offer in gifts and holiday floral arrangements,” she said. “We’ll have refreshments and treats during the open house and we encourage the community to come out and enjoy the day with us.”
The parade will consist of floats and riding units including cheerleaders, football players, queens and church groups. Marching units will include the Boy and Girl Scouts and the featured New Brockton High School marching band.
“Each of the units will have plenty of candy to throw out, too,” Herron said.
The New Brockton Senior Citizens Center is also planning open house to show the new renovations for the building.
Town Council member Bill Brantley said the center recently has gotten new paint on the outside and renovations on the inside.
“We’re looking forward to everyone coming in to see the new renovated center. The seniors are proud of it and the town is proud of it,” he said. “We just want everyone to come out and have a good time.”
