Henderson was among hundreds of high school seniors from Coffee, Dale and Geneva counties and many adults who attended the annual Career Fair at Enterprise-Ozark Community College’s gym on Thursday to seek job and career information.
The annual Career Fair provided the seniors and the public time to talk with representatives from area businesses, agencies, industries and organization regarding current or future employment opportunities.
Mike Benak, a forensic scientist from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, said he primarily talked with high school seniors during the event.
“We told each one of them to find out what they’re good at,” he said. “Some of them were more science-oriented and that’s what you have to be to become a forensic scientist. It isn’t all what they see on TV.”
Along with businesses and agencies, military organizations including the United States Marine Corps, the Alabama Army National Guard, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard also provided information for anyone thinking about a military career.
Sgt. 1st Class Melody Fortune of the Alabama National Guard, said, “a lot of questions came up about money for college and the jobs that were available when you joined the Guard. Many of them also asked about the difference in part-time and full-time in the Guard. We also have a GED program available.”
Fortune said the National Guard could also place anyone in the U.S. Army under the Active-First plan.
“There are many opportunities in the National Guard and we want to be able to give the students the information they need in order to make their decisions,” she said.
The annual Career Fair is sponsored by EOCC, the Enterprise Rotary Club and the Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union.
