A $2.5 million road resurfacing project kicked off early Monday morning as a convoy of Alabama Department of Transportation crews set up shop on Highway 27 North and Highway 167 South.
ALDOT District Manager Pat Henderson said resurfacing of the 10 miles of highway is expected to be completed by fall. The project begins with milling the existing road surface, Henderson said. “That is, in essence, the grinding of the existing surface.”
The milling is followed by a thin layering of asphalt to level the road and the resurfacing is completed with a final layering of asphalt.
Motorists traveling through Enterprise are advised to use caution when traveling on both highways, Henderson said. The work on Highway 27 North is from U.S. Highway 84/Main Street to the northern city limits. On Highway 167 South, resurfacing is from the northern Geneva County line to the Boll Weevil Circle.
Motorists can expect to experience longer than usual travel time and some traffic delays, but ALDOT is working to make the project as seamless as possible. “I would urge travelers to slow down, obey all posted speed limit and warning signs,” he said.
Enterprise Mayor Kenneth Boswell urged travelers to be careful in the road repair areas. “We must utilize extreme caution as we move through these areas,” he said, “not only to help the construction crew expedite this process, but more importantly, for the safety and well-being of their workers."
The project is expected to be completed by October, Henderson. said All questions may be directed to the ALDOT office at 347-8166.
