KINSTON - The Enterprise Dixie Minor Nationals sent 11 hitters to the plate and scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning Tuesday en route to a 12-1 victory against Slocomb.
With the win, Enterprise moved into Wednesday's championship game against Samson, a team the Americans defeated earlier in the tournament.
Samson, with one loss, would've had to beat Enterprise, 3-0, twice Wednesday night to win the championship. The district tournament will be played in Geneva next week.
Parker Warren went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs to lead the Nationals offensively. Seth Rogers, Hunter Windham and Ryan Jones were 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two RBIs apiece, and Santi Garcia, Logan Kennedy and Chris Parrish went 1-for-2. Parrish had an RBI.
Danny Childress had a sacrifice bunt, Jo Jo White was 1-for-1 with a triple, Kevin Donavan and Lane Marler were 0-for-1 but drew walks, plating a run each in the first inning.
Pitching and defense were as good as Tuesday's hitting for the Nationals.
Jones, the starting pitcher, worked two innings, walked two, struck out five and allowed one run that came off a misplayed bunt following two walks in the second inning.
Marler worked the third and fourth innings, walked two, struck out four and allowed no runs. The game ended on a double play following the two bases-on-balls in the top of the the fourth inning.
"This was a great team effort," said head coach David Jones. "We got good pitching, good hitting, and good defense. And we had a good attitude and all of that is why we're 3-0 and still looking to remain undefeated in this tournament."
