Sue Neuwien of Enterprise was unanimously elected chairman of the Second Congressional District Republican Party at a recent party executive committee meeting in Troy.
Neuwien is one of 22 people throughout the state elected to serve on the party’s state Steering Committee. Alabama Republican Party Executive Director John Ross said Monday the district’s choice is an excellent one. “I’ll say this about Sue,” Ross said, “she is a true servant of the Republican Party.”
“Extremely bright, loyal, genuinely concerned about people,” is how State Sen. Jimmy Holley described Neuwien Monday. “She is the epitome of what the Republican Party stands for.”
The Steering Committee, or board of directors, is the main governing body for the Alabama Republican Committee. “The 22-member committee meets once each quarter and helps define the direction of the Republican Party while preserving and promoting the values of the Republican Party,” Ross said.
Neuwien has served this year as chairman of the Coffee County Chapter of the state’s Federation of Republican Women and plans to remain active with the local group.
“The main purpose of our club is to educate our members on political issues, to increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government through active participation and to promote political education and activity,’ Neuwien said. “We work with the Republican Party on the state and national level to promote its principles and ideals, and to work for the election of party nominees.”
“Our goal is to foster the principles of the Republican Party and to elect Republicans that share our values and goals,” she said. As district chairman, Neuwien hopes to “promote an informed electorate through political education.” Her plans include visits to each of the Republican Clubs in the district which covers 16 counties and is is the biggest in the state geographically.
“We work to foster loyalty to the Republican Party and to promote its ideals,” Neuwien said. “We work for the election of the Republican Party’s nominees.”
“We are the party that reflects the values of Coffee County and Alabama citizens,” Neuwien said. “With hard work, we can increase the growing Republican trend in Alabama.”
