New Brockton High School Marching Band members perform for parents and community members during a wrap-up of band camp July 31. The band will be under direction of new Band Director Lee Stacks.
The 60 marching members of the New Brockton High School band will have a new leader this year. Lee Stacks, band director, took over the band this summer for the annual band camp.
Stacks, along with Drum Major Ebony West, spent two weeks in July practicing with the band amid occasional rain showers and constant hot temperatures to develop a halftime show featuring some of the best hits from the 1980s.
NBHS Band Booster President Terrie Morris said the band finished camp on July 31 with a concert for the band boosters, parents and community.
“They are doing real well and we’re proud of our band,” Morris said. “We’ve got several fundraisers planned this year and are also sponsoring the Miss Christmas pageant as a fundraiser this year.”
Morris said excitement is increasing as the time for the band to perform on the field for the Gamecocks halftime shows draws closer.
“New Brockton High School is hosting the football jamboree this year August 21 and the band will perform for the first time at the stadium. This is an exciting new time for our band students and Mr. Stacks is doing a great job,” Morris said.
