Gamecocks’ offense struggles in playoff sweep
The first round of the playoffs did not turn out to be good for the New Brockton Gamecocks as they fell 9-0, 2-0 to 2A’s third-ranked American Christian. The Gamecocks’ offense managed three hits in the two games, including two in the 9-0 loss.

Rebel yell, Rebel yelp
The Zion Chapel Rebels defeated the Brantley Bulldogs in 4-3 Game 1 of a playoff doubleheader, but they could not complete the sweep, falling 6-2 in Game 2. The split forced the a third game in the best-of-three series. The game was played Saturday afternoon, but results were not available at presstime.

The Enterprise Lady Wildcats softball team participated in a tournament in Foley, losing 5-0 in the semifinals to eventual champion Cullman. Despite the loss, the Lady ‘Cats went 4-2 in pool play and 2-1 in bracket play.

Stinson dominates Tigers with pitching, hitting
Zion Chapel Lady Rebel Brooke Stinson allowed no earned runs and had four RBIs in leading her team to a 9-1 win over the McKenzie Tigers. Stinson did the damage early as she blasted a double in the first inning. The hit scored Becca Hodge and Sydney Williamson. Kelli Behrens followed Stinson with a sacrifice fly to score Stinson, and the Lady Rebels held an early 3-0 lead.

Rebels ready for playoff series with Brantley
The Zion Chapel Rebels will make their first trip to the baseball playoffs since 2005 Friday when they travel to Brantley to take on the Bulldogs. Rebels head baseball coach Thomas Boswell said the team is ready for the best-of-three series.

Gamecocks baseball enter playoffs on winning streak
The New Brockton Gamecocks squeaked by Ariton 7-6 Monday and are now riding a two-game winning streak entering the playoffs. The Gamecocks defeated 1A’s eighth-ranked Zion Chapel 5-4 in nine innings Thursday. Against Ariton, Shane Adkison belted a two-run homer, while Trey Knight added a solo homer.
Bulldogs fall to Samson in season-ending game
Samson Tigers lefthander Jason Jordan turned in a stellar performance on the mound as the Samson Tigers defeated the Kinston Bulldogs 5-3 Tuesday.
Jordan recorded nine strikeouts in three innings while facing a total of ten batters. Only one batter was able to put the bat on the ball, reaching first base on a fielding error.

Wicksburg beats Samson for area title
The Samson Tigers traveled to Wicksburg on Friday to play a doubleheader with hopes of winning the 2A, Area 3 title and advancing to postseason play with homefield advantage. Their hopes were dashed in the first game when the Wicksburg Panthers pounded out a 10-4 victory.
Enterprise soccer finishes section play undefeated
The Enterprise boys and girls soccer teams defeated Smiths Station to remain undefeated in section play and in their overall records. The ninth-ranked boys defeated Smiths Station 3-1 behind Ben Maxham’s hat trick, all of which came in the first half.
Lady Bulldogs smash Zion Chapel for area win
The Kinston Lady Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing streak with a 10-3 win over area foe Zion Chapel Rebels Monday. Kinston (7-12-1) jumped out early when Erin Shaw and Holli Kilcrease drew walks, stole a couple of bases and scored on passed balls to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
Wildcats baseball ends season on losing note
The last two games of the Enterprise Wildcats baseball season were indicative of their season as a lack of hitting and crucial errors led to a doubleheader sweep. The Wildcats had only three hits in a 7-1 loss and allowed three unearned runs in a 4-2 loss to Houston Academy in Monday action.

Lady Bulldogs find going tough at Enterprise tournament
The defending 1A state champion Kinston Lady Bulldogs found the going tough at Enterprise’s Lady Cat Invitational, losing all three games the team played. In pool play, the Lady Bulldogs lost 2-0 in each game to 6A’s ninth-ranked Northview and 5A’s fourth-ranked St. Paul’s. The Lady Bulldogs’ bats finally got going in the first round of single-elimination play, a rematch with Northview.
Lady Wildcats fall in semifinals of own tournament
The Enterprise Lady Wildcats softball team looked poised to advance to the title game of the Lady Cat Invitational. They led 3-1 going into the final inning of play, but St. Paul’s scored three runs, two on a crucial error, to steal a victory from the Lady ‘Cats. St. Paul’s won the tournament, defeating Northview 2-0 in the final game.

Warriors’ rally ends Panthers’ playoff hopes
At the beginning of the season, Geneva Panthers head baseball coach Brent Justice hoped to duplicate last year’s success as the Panthers reached the semifinals in state playoffs. The team had to replace nine starters, but despite that, the Panthers had a chance to make the playoffs with a win Thursday over the Dale County Warriors.

Gamecocks golf team participates at Elba event
The New Brockton Gamecocks golf team placed third in a tournament at the Elba Country Club, falling to Charles Henderson and Andalusia. The Gamecocks had a score of 351 strokes combined, behind Andalusia’s 320 and Charles Henderson’s 334.
New Brockton slides past Zion Chapel
The Zion Chapel Rebels mounted a rally in the seventh and another in the ninth, but the New Brockton Gamecocks held on for a 5-4 win. 1A’s eighth-ranked Zion Chapel got on the scoreboard in the first inning as Matt Brunson led things off with a single. John Wayne Lambert reached on a fielder’s choice.

Samson softball continues winning ways
The 2A sixth-ranked Samson Lady Tigers softball team continued a strong season with a 2-0 win over Luverne Monday and a 2-1 victory over Ariton Tuesday.
The wins improved the Lady Tigers to 23-4. They faced Geneva County last night in an area game, but results were not available at press time.
Enterprise golf wins seventh in a row
The Enterprise Wildcats golf team continued to swing the clubs well Tuesday, notching a 308 at Tartan Pines for a win over Andalusia and Dothan. The tournament was the seventh win in a row for the Wildcats. They placed second in their first two events before the streak.

That sound of a bleating cow dying is not from a nearby pasture. It is coming from Tuscaloosa’s Coleman Coliseum. In case you have been busy watching March Madness, the start of the Atlanta Braves season or just do not really care about basketball generally, Alabama’s basketball program is in complete disarray.
Godwin gets season started for Jacksonville
The 10 teams in the Southern League are off and running, and the Jacksonville Suns’ Adam Godwin is as excited as anyone in the league. “In Double-A, you’re just a phone call away from the Major Leagues,” Godwin said during lunch Wednesday as he and his teammates were preparing to open a 5-game series against the Tennessee Smokies in Knoxville.

EHS soccer teams reach 20 wins, clinch area titles
The Enterprise boys and girls soccer teams had historic firsts with their 8-0 and 4-0 wins over Northview Tuesday. For the boys, it is the first year they have started 20-0, the longest winning streak in program history, according to boys head coach Randy Halcomb. For the girls, it is the first 20-win season in the program’s history as they have a 20-0-1 record.
Enterprise snaps losing streak against Northview
For the Enterprise Lady Wildcats softball team, the streak is over. Entering Tuesday’s game with the Northview Lady Cougars, Enterprise had dropped 10 straight games to their area foes, a streak that ended with a 3-2 win.
Wildcats baseball keeps alive with Dothan victory
The Enterprise High School Wildcats kept their baseball playoff hopes alive and avenged an earlier loss to Dothan High by downing the Tigers, 8-4, at Lint Warren Field in Enterprise Tuesday night. Dothan won the opener of an early-season doubleheader, the game that counted in area standings, while Enterprise won the nightcap, the outcome of which is used as a tie-breaker.

Lady Bulldogs snap four-game skid
The Kinston Lady Bulldogs, defending 1A state champions, picked up their first softball win in nearly a month with a 6-0 win over the Elba Tigers Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs last won March 10 against Opp when Sara Mock threw a no-hitter.
Elite teams to participate in Lady Cat Invitational
The place to be for great high school softball action is Enterprise Friday and Saturday as an elite list of teams will participate in the Lady Cat Invitational.
The list of seven participants includes two defending state champions, 1A’s Kinston and 5A’s Gulf Shores.
Lady Wildcats tennis improves win streak to three
The Enterprise Lady Wildcats have won three tennis matches in a row after defeating Northview 5-4 Thursday and Andalusia 8-1 Monday.
The Northview win was a bonus because of sectional implications. It also served as revenge for an earlier 3-6 defeat.

Panthers shock Slocomb for key area win
After losing to Headland and Slocomb in late March, Geneva Panthers head baseball coach Brent Justice knew his team needed to win out in area play to have a shot at the playoffs. His Panthers have responded with three straight wins in the area, including a nine-inning 3-2 revenge win over the sixth-ranked Slocomb Red Tops Friday.
