Enterprise softball beats Rehobeth

The Enterprise High School varsity softball team faced the Rehobeth Rebels in Rehobeth Tuesday, and brought home an 8-5 win.

“It wasn’t an easy win but it was a win and we’re glad to get it,” said EHS coach Ben Thompson.

After the Lady Wildcats failed to score in the top of the first inning, the Rebels lit up the scoreboard.

A double, a single, an error on a bunt, a single, a double, a single, a strikeout, and a fly-out gave the Rebels a 4-0 lead.

Enterprise sent nine hitters to the plate in the top of the third inning and when the dust cleared, the Cats had trimmed the lead to 4-3.

Ashlea Carnley started the rally with a walk and Bailey Harrelson followed with a bunt single. One out later, on a squeeze bunt, Januar Page reached on error and earned an RBI.

Kayla Beth Logsdon’s sacrifice squeeze plated a run, and Adrienne Bradley’s single scored Page. Jordan Bullock drew a walk, and Merecedes Sanders reached on an infield error. A fly-out ended the inning.

In the top of the fifth, Page reached on an infield single, moved to second on Logsdon’s sac bunt, and raced to third on a passed ball.

The top of the sixth inning saw Ashley Simon draw a one-out walk.

Pinch-hitter Ashley Brown got an infield hit and both runners advanced on Harrelson’s sac bunt. Terra Rasmussen’s 2-out double to right field produced 2 RBI’s and put Enterprise ahead, 6-4.

In the bottom of the inning, Rehobeth scored a run as a result of an Enterprise error and a run-producing line drive that trimmed the EHS lead to 6-5 before the final out was recorded.

Enterprise padded its lead in the top of the final inning. After two Wildcats struck out, Bullock and Sanders reached on Rehobeth errors.

Simon’s single and an error in right field scored Bullock and Sanders, leaving the score, 8-5, with a half inning to play.

The Rebels got a couple of hits but could score no more in the home half of the last inning.

Brittany Perry pitched 4 innings, allowed 8 hits, 4 runs – 2 earned –and struck out 3 Rebels.

Rasmussen worked an inning, allowed a pair of hits but no runs.

Kaitlin Strickland (4-1) got the win by working 2 innings, allowing 4 hits, and an earned run.

Rasmussen went 1-for-1 with a double and a pair of RBI’s. Simon was 1-for-3 with a walk and 2 RBI’s; Bradley was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI’s, and Page was 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI.

“A come-from-behind road win is a tribute to the determination our girls had,” Thompson concluded.

In the day’s opening game, the Lady Wildcats downed Rehobeth, 7-0, to improve to 3-1-1.

Heather Spillers hit a 2-run home run and Jostlyn Higgerson (2-1) pitched a complete game.
