It took until the final buzzer for the Enterprise High School ninth grade boys basketball team to win its ninth game of the season Thursday in Clayton.

The Wildcats won a thriller 38-37 in the Barbour County High School gymnasium where many a good team goes to get trounced.

“It was a good game and a good win for us,” said EHS coach Brian Weeden of the thriller.

The win avenged an earlier loss to Barbour County.

“Barbour County was shooting the front end of a 1-and-1 and missed the first shot,” Weeden explained. “Rashad Hayes got the big rebound, got the outlet pass to Demetrius Rogers; Demetrius drove the length of the court and scored on a lay-up at the buzzer.”

Rogers had 13 points for Enterprise; teammate Jourdan McGowan also netted 13 for the 9-1 Cats.

“The last time we played them, their leading scorer had 18 points,” Weeden concluded. “This time, we held him to 8.”

Enterprise will resume play in January.
