Three arrested in July 4 burglary
Three men arrested in connection with the Saturday evening burglary of a Main Street computer store remain in Coffee County Jail, according to sheriff’s department records.
Timothy A. Read, 30, and Robert Tenny,19, both of 204 W. Park Ave., Enterprise, and Edmond Demetrius Thompson, 30, of 191 N. Harris, Fort Rucker, were arrested and charged with third-degree burglary in connection with a burglary at Fleming Multi Media Group on Main Street in Enterprise.
Store owner Brian Fleming said Monday that two laptop computers and an LCD screen were taken in the burglary, which apparently occurred between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Saturday. One of the computers had a 15.4 inch monitor and a dual-core processor, Fleming said. “It was a display model, so the power cord wasn’t attached.“
No one was at the store when the burglary occurred and no one was injured, according to police reports. “Well, no one was physically injured,“ Fleming said as he surveyed the destroyed glass store front. “But how do you measure the injury caused by knowing that something like this could have happened here on Main Street, USA?“
Fleming estimates the loss at $3,600 and said he does not have insurance. “So it is very much a loss,“ he said.
The downtown businessman said that, in his 25 years doing business at that location, the most damage he had previously suffered was having a window accidentally shattered by a youngster with a rock.
He added that an empty EVEREX computer box is the only thing that has been recovered by authorities to his knowledge, “But somebody somewhere is going to have to go someplace to get a power cord because the one display laptop lacks one.“
Merchants on Main Street are small family-owned businesses, Fleming said, shaking his head as he surveyed the store.
“I feel like my livelihood has been threatened and that is kind of scary.“

LIke other business people here in Enterprise who have had bad checks, I know just how out of date the system is in tackling crime. Bad checks are just the first step for many ciminals.
They gratduate to biger and more violent crimes because they seem to get away with everything from bad checks to Burglary with little or no punishment.
All crime no matter how small is a crime against the entire community.
Crimes against businesses are a direct assault against the finicial well-being of our city.
Known criminals are often allowed as much as two weeks to flee and or evade responcibility for writing bad checks.
While here in Alabama we do have a bad check law, it could be greatly streamlined and improved to better protect our local businesses. The time it takes before you are able to take a bad check to te DA allows for many to escape justice. Banks do not help by not letting the merchant know if an account has been closed. This casuses unneeded delays. Anybody that writes a check on a closed account is not just making an innocent mistake that are committing a crime.
I would ask all of our local businesses to press the city and state to provide better protection of our businesses.
After all if it was not for local businesses, their would not be a viable city to live in.
Your friend and local businessman,
Brian Fleming
Sweet Jesus. It is a blessing from above that those dastardly criminals did not take Santa’s clippers. Keep growing your beard, Fleming Multimedia man. Get a cape and hang with the North Pole guy and defeat crime…
Its a shame that this breakin could have been prevented. One of the jerks arrested wrote a bad check at my business, he then pawned the merchindise to another business. The DA could do nothing because of the way the check was returnd (Uncollected funds Hold). But he said the city could arrest him on 3rd degree theft charges. But the city Magistrate refused to issue a warrant. This jerk has wrote bad checks to several other businesses and I explained to the magistrate that this low life needed to be stopped but….. it fell on deaf ears.
On a day when we should be grateful and celebrating the selfless service of those who help us to stand tall, there has always got to be some selfish people out there doing selfish and stupid things. This world is getting worse and worse. What’s next???
