A local artist brought home a juried art award from TroyFest, a fine art and craft festival for the Central Alabama region held annually in Troy.
Anouk Gunter of Enterprise was awarded Best of Show for her illustrative acrylic paintings. “We were honored to have Anouk as an exhibiting artist in our gallery of fine art and crafts,” said Stephanie Baker, TroyFest chairman. “The juried awards are highly competitive. Outside jurors select the awards on quality and creativity displayed in each of the artist’s skill, craftsmanship, ingenuity and originality. The Best of Show award means that Anouk was recognized above all artists in all other categories.”
Other juried categories included painting, pottery, jewelry, photography, graphics and drawing, sculpture, functional traditional craft and decorative traditional craft. In addition to the Best of Show ribbon and cash prize, Gunter will be offered a solo exhibit at the Johnson Center for Art by the Troy Arts Council.
The 2009 festival marked TroyFest’s seventh anniversary. The annual festival is the last weekend in April on the historic square in downtown Troy and draws about 8,000 people and more than 100 vendors.
In addition to the fine arts and craft show, TroyFest includes the JazzFest and the Alabama International Film Festival. TroyFest is a presented by the city of Troy, Pike County Chamber of Commerce and Troy Arts Council.
