With approximately 40 Confederate States of American veterans buried in the Enterprise City Cemetery, a renewal and grave dedication ceremony is planned for one veteran who has not been noted.

Members of the Gen. Edmond Winchester Rucker Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the public will be able to celebrate Confederate Memorial Day and Confederate Heritage and History Month Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m. at the city cemetery.
Chapter President Shirley Edberg said a special salute for the grave dedication and new marker for CSA veteran, 2nd Lt. Charles R. Walden, will be honored in a special salute by members of Company E. 15th Alabama CSA re-enactors.

“We are honored to have the public join us for this special ceremony,” Edberg said. “Since the city cemetery was damaged during last year’s tornado, countless volunteers have spent many hours cleaning and restoring the cemetery back to the beauty of this hallowed ground. We are honored that CSA veteran Walden’s descendants will be able to join us from North Carolina.”

Edberg said activities for the special occasion will begin at a luncheon for chapter members with guest speaker Maj.  (Ret.) Sir Francis McGowin.

“After the luncheon, we hope that the public will join us in this special dedication service. Walden served in the 49th Georgia Infantry during the War Between the States, but after the war, he moved to Coffee County, where he was buried in the Enterprise City Cemetery. We have not gotten the chance to honor this CSA veteran before, but we’ll be celebrating Confederate Memorial Day, so we knew this is the perfect time to host this event for the public, as well as the descendants of Walden.”
