County schools lock-down during drug search
Coffee County schools were ordered to lockdown Wednesday during a drug search by Coffee County Sheriff’s Department officers and Alcohol Beverage Control Board agents.
Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton, Zion Chapel, New Brockton High School, New Brockton Elementary School and Kinston schools, were locked down during the search of the schools’ interior, vehicles in parking areas, student lockers and other areas of the schools.
“We found nothing major, but we did find some alcohol and tobacco products that students had,” Sutton said. “ABC agents did not make any arrests, but wrote citations to some of the students.”
Sutton said drug dogs also were used during the surprise search.
“We did not notify Superintendent Linda Ingram, the principals or teachers of the search,” he said. “This is because we don’t want the word to get out about the search coming.”

I send my kids to school to be supervised by teachers, not the S.O. I don’t really want the S.O. supervising my kids unless they are officially notified they are needed. I guess kids will make better Nazis when they grow up if they get used to being searched like a criminal with no reason - or warrant.
I do have children, and if they ever break the rules you can be sure that they will get the appropriate punishment. If it is in the handbook that there is ZERO tolerance then I would expect there to be a punishment worse than a slap on the wrist and a note home. If you were A OK with what the school did than why make any comment at all? BTW I dont believe I singled anyone out in my comment so you take a chill pill and stop being so defensive. These kids are who are going to be running our country when we are older so remember that! I just think teenagers today are spoiled and think they are entitled.

I take it you don’t have kids? As a parent I will take up for my children !!! You do not know me nor do you know how I discipline my children, (trust me they did not get off scott free)so before you get all ate up with yourself, take a chill pill. I am a-ok with what the CCSO’s office did.. I am A-ok with what the school did. I fully trust that my kids know how to use a a gun when they hunt .. ITS CALLED GUN SAFTEY, if you teach it early they respect fire arms and how to use them properly.
I AM SHOCKED! What the Sherriff did was COMPLETLY legal! I find it very sad that parents are condoning their children having this illegal contraband on school property, or having it at all for that matter! Parents need to step up and start teaching their children that there are consequenses to their actions. Good kid or not, they broke the rules. PERIOD! It doesnt matter that you live in a place that kids hunt/fish, what makes you guys different than people in the city?
Lol whiteenglish I am an Auburn fan but Iam glad that Bama brought it home.You never know with a scare like that and a little love and compassion this may help change a childs life that was heading down the wrong path.
we sure do tiger girl even tho i’m thinking u may be an auburn fan and u know bama is the best lol and i’m not trying to be mean just be reasonable everyone ur child or someone elses rules are rules and they are there for the kids safety and are made from past experiences…u know what they say history repeats itself…if u wanna know the future read the past so we make rules and laws trying to stop this from happening i mean i understand where ur coming from i do and i’m not saying lock them up but the other day very easily could have saved ur child’s life or my children’s life ...anyway have a great day everyone try to smile alittle even tho it’s raining lol and most of all be safe
I am not sure if my last post is or has posted Whiteenglish I thought that last post was for me. I did not see the other post. I think for the most part we feel the same, I think you would take up for your child just like I do. I also think you see where i am comming from. We may have differnt styles and ways of thinking but we both want the same thing what is best for the kids,and residents.
wait wait wait ...now who is the first person u call if something happened at the school hu hu? the POLICE or the S.O. am i right ...now ur putting them down because the sheriff came up and done his job? come on now !!! are u really going to do that? i mean if someone hit ur child and god for bid he was hurt really bad or killed would u say awww it was harmless it was just beer or would u be raising cane about it because the law had done NOTHING about it i mean come on now don’t be silly even u have got to understand the rules and why they are there lol i mean surely u signed the paper stating “ANY PERSON OR PROPERTY IS SUBJECT TO SEARCH” surely u did ... any where u work is like that i mean ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE is like that
look this will be it ...my last comment on this…i know some or probably most of the kids that got caught..by no means am i saying either of them are crazed killers lol i’m just saying things happen…i want my kids to be safe and away from it so they will be safe..now ur child i’m sure is a great young man but someone elses may not be ...their parents may not know everything that is going on with that child just like the other school and parents didn’t…u hear it every time….he was a good student..never in trouble ..didn’t mind work…there wasn’t any warning signs and i know that school sweeps alot of stuff under the rug….either last year or the year before a kid had a shot gun held to his stomach in the parking lot…no news report to jail time nothing and i know this was just a hunting knife and he’s old enough to be drafted and all this good stuff but the fact remains he was caught ...he knew it was against the rules and alot of them that got caught had already been caught for bringing alcohol on a bus to a baseball game ..this is NOT the first time they had been caught ...until u have gone and watched a man and woman burry their own child don’t preach to anybody about it being harmless….things can and will happen whether it be from drinking or fighting things can and will happen….look how many of our kids’ freinds have been burried or ended up in the hospital from drinking and wrecking their car during their high school career…it just isn’t worth it and we as parents need to do better and they as 18 year olds already know better..
At least our kids have learned what it would be like under Nazi rule. I send my kids to school under the supervision of the the Superintendent and her employees - NOT Sheriff’s Dept.If she needs them, she’ll call them. Freedom is NOT having your personal things searched when the Sheriff sees fit. Sutton would jump at the opportunity to search every house in the county - BY FORCE. Read German history and visualize where Coffee County is headed. I’m glad he is busting meth labs but he following the law there. If he were not, he knows they would be thrown out of court.
