Rucker Boulevard will be resurfaced and a left turn lane added to the Freedom Drive intersection, Alabama Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Tony Harris said Friday.
The road commonly called Rucker Boulevard is State Highway 248, and the responsibility for the resurfacing falls to the Alabama Department of Transportation.
Specifications for the project, which will repave the road from Briarwood to the Enterprise Fort Rucker gate, are being currently being drawn up, said Harris. Bids will be let five or six weeks before the project is to begin later this year.
During the repaving, a left turn lane will be added to the Freedom Drive intersection to improve safety and a proposed traffic light is being discussed, Harris said.
“During any ALDOT project, we try to minimize the impact on the public,” Harris said. “Resurfacing projects are among the fastest we do.”
